Save the Blue Nile

(Grand Canyon of Africa)



The Blue Nile flows through the deepest and most majestic canyon in Africa, but the 6th largest dam in the world, the Grand Ethiopian Rennaissance Dam (GERD), is about to be completed and start filling its reservoir and flood 260 km (~30%) of the canyon. It will not be possible to raft or kayak through the entire ~900 km (550 mile) canyon afterward. Sign a PETITION to save the remaining Blue Nile canyon!

After the GERD is completed, there are a series of 4 more megadams planned for the river canyon upstream. It would be a ecological catastrophe to lose the entire canyon to a series of dams. With the change in administration and more political freedom starting in 2018, this is an opportune time to publicize and rally a conservation movement to PROTECT THE REMAINING GRAND CANYON OF THE NILE!

We at SierraRios are organizing a series of last descent expeditions through the Grand Canyon of the Nile in 2018 that anyone is welcomed to join (even those without experience). The trips are run similar to those on the Grand Canyon of the Colorado. We completed 4 full descents in 2017 and have everything set for another season including permits.
