Special Trips

Don't let logistical hurdles, language barriers, or fear stop you from enjoying the best rivers in Latin America! We specialize in arranging special raft-support and kayak trips down the rivers of Mexico and Peru. Trips are geared toward boaters - both rafters and kayakers - but raft paddlers/passengers are welcomed too. Raft support trips are particularly appropriate for groups of paddlers of varying ability level. If you have a group of 3-12 and would like us to arrange such a trip, please start a discussion with Rocky Contos about it:

148 miles, class III-IV, 9 days

August: rendezvous in Douglas/Sahuaripa. MORE INFO

This is one of the finest long-distance wilderness rivers in Mexico and located just south of the Arizona border. The trip is comparable to a half Grand Canyon, triple Salt, or Salmon River trip with beautiful canyon, interesting side hikes, and fun rapids. Everyone is welcome: kayakers, rafters, and raft passengers/paddlers. Space is limited. This is primarily a class III trip and is suitable for intermediate kayakers. The 6 class IV rapids can be averted if desired.

On this raft/kayak expedition, we will make our way down one of the most scenic higher elevation rivers in Mexico located just south of the New Mexico/Texas border in the Copper Canyon area. Experience pillars, caves, rapids, and hotsprings in Tarahumara land as we float into the Chihuahua desert. Everyone is welcome: kayakers, rafters, and raft passengers/paddlers. This is a class III trip and is suitable for intermediate kayakers.

RIO PIAXTLA : Source-to-Sea through the Deepest Canyon in North America

On this kayak/raft expedition down Río Piaxtla, we plan to fly up to the rim, hike down into the deepest canyon in North America, and then paddle all the way to the Pacific Ocean. This is one of the last free-flowing rivers in Mexico's Sierra Madre Occidental and may be dammed soon, so enjoy it while you still can! Everyone is welcome: kayakers, rafters, and raft passengers. The trip is suitable for intermediate kayakers. Class V paddlers have an option of tackling the Puerta de Piaxtla section for the 3 days prior to meeting the group.

RIO PRESIDIO : Second Deepest Canyon in North America and Partial First Descent

70 miles, class IV+, 6 days

September: rendezvous in Mazatlán. MORE INFO

Our Río Presidio journey starts at a remote road access point just past several unrunnable chasms. We will face numerous class IV rapids through the second deepest canyon in North America, including in the initial 14 km of virgin river never paddled before!! Use your boat or ours. Everyone is welcome: kayakers, rafters, and raft passengers/paddlers. Another 3 days of class IV may be available before or after (Río Baluarte).
